Meet Our Veterinary Staff
At Jonesville Animal Hospital, our veterinary staff have always been chosen based on their warm, nurturing approach to pet health care and genuine passion for helping others. We know how meaningful it is to build lasting, trusting relationships with local pet families in Newberry, Jonesville, Tioga and Gainesville, FL. That's why our veterinary hospital is committed to cultivating an environment that is comforting, compassionate and personal for every visitor. Emily Practice Manager
Emily began working with Dr. Lerman and Dr. Vliet in 2000 after moving to Florida from Athens, Georgia. Over the years she has worked as a receptionist and a technician, helping to manage the office and maintain our website. After gaining some experience in sales with a veterinary distributor, she returned as our practice manager in 2014. She says that working at JAH rarely feels like 'work' due to the warm, family-like atmosphere and is truly proud to be part of such a caring and compassionate team. Emily loves being a mom to her daughter, Gaelyn, and is also an artist and avid music lover. She spends as much of her free time as possible on or near the water, attending concerts, visiting family and friends, and making jewelry.
Christina Receptionist Team Leader
Christina joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team as a receptionist in June 2012 with 14 years of experience in the veterinary field. She has a Chinese Crested named Harold, a Chi-Weenie named Trooper, an American Bulldog Mix named Clyde and a French Bulldog named Yoda. Christina enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, cooking and watching sports.
Charlene Technician Team Leader
Charlene joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in August 2017 but worked as a veterinary technician in Miami for several years prior to joining our team. Charlene was born and raised in Miami and moved to Gainesville to pursue her Bachelor's in Animal Science at the University of Florida. She graduated with her Bachelor's in 2019. Charlene says that ever since joining Jonesville Animal Hospital she's felt like she's found a home here in Gainesville. Everyone at JAH is as welcoming to the clients as they are to the staff. It brings Charlene a lot of joy, to be able to be part of a collaborative team. On her time off she enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and dogs, Ava, Red, and her cat Luci.
Katy Surgery Team Leader
Katy joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital staff in April 2009. She has worked as a veterinary technician since 2000. Originally from Loxahatchee, Florida, Katy currently resides in Lake Butler with her husband and daughter. Their little farm includes horses, chickens, cats, dogs, a goat, and a rabbit. When she's not at work, Katy enjoys horseback riding, cooking, outdoor activities and spending time with her family and friends.
Heather has been with Jonesville Animal Hospital since it opened in 2003, bringing with her 15 years of experience and knowledge in the veterinary field. In her spare time, Heather enjoys spending time with her husband, Ric, their dogs, cat, and horse. Her hobbies include dressage, cooking, reading, and gardening.
Melanie joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital family in March 2008. She is an Alachua County native and the loving mother to 2 two-legged and 2 four-legged kids. She loves anything Papillon, enjoys pet sitting, cooking, crafts and decorating.
Tiffany has been working at JAH since July 2018. She also works as a student contractor at the USGS Wetlands and Aquatics Research Center where she does toxicity studies on mosquitoes and butterflies. Her pets include: her dog Ace; her cats Kuno, CeCe, & Capo; a bearded dragon Renzo; three guinea pigs Delilah, Azalea, & Iris; six leopard geckos; and four axolotls. Tiffany is taking classes at Sante Fe College and planning to apply to the UF School of Veterinary Medicine. In her free time, she enjoys nature walks, crocheting, bike riding, playing video games, and hanging out by the pool.
Alanna moved to Gainesville from Tucson, AZ in 2017 to pursue her Zoology degree at UF. She has worked as a Veterinary Technician for the last 5 years. Alanna began as a receptionist at Jonesville Animal Hospital in September 2020 and enjoys being around her new work family! In her free time, you may find Alanna drawing, making jewelry, cosplaying, hiking, hanging out with her bearded dragon, playing with her corn snake, having conversations with her two cats, or traveling to the beach.
Sara joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in February 2021. She grew up in Chiefland, Florida and is currently a student at the University of Florida majoring in Animal Science. She plans to attend veterinary school after receiving her undergraduate degree. Sara has two cats, June and Oscar, and a Dachshund mix named Ellie. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cozying up with her animals to read a good book, and going on adventures.
Kim is originally from Cornwall England and came over to the United States in 2015. At home, she has a dog named Huckleberry, a terrier mix named Doodle Bug, and a tiny 4lb Maltese named Gemma. They also share the home with seven cats: Peaches, Niles, Draco, Ke$ha, Vampie, Klaus, and Special Agent Dale Cooper. When she is not at home keeping up with those cats, she is camping and exploring with the dogs!
Veterinary Technician Outpatient Team
Abby joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in July 2017. She is currently studying Biology at the University of Florida and plans to attend veterinary school after receiving her undergraduate degree. Abby has two Lab mix dogs, Barkley and Bugsy, that live back at home in Ocala, Florida. In her free time, Abby enjoys listening to music, traveling, hiking, spending time with friends, and attending concerts.
Christian joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in July 2017 while pursuing his undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences. He now studies at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and is expected to graduate with his DVM in 2024. While at school, he has developed special interests in animal behavior, client education, and palliative care. At home, Christian has a gorgeous cat named Narcissa and a regal dog named Queenie (pictured).
As the daughter of Dr. Lerman, Jenna has grown up within the walls of Jonesville Animal Hospital. When she was little, she would cozy up in the hospital surrounded by the wonders of veterinary medicine, sparking her passion for the field. As she enters her last years of undergrad at the University of Florida, her excitement grows even stronger as she comes closer to pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian. On a personal note, Jenna is a retired level 10 competitive gymnast, and enjoys working out, along with spending quality time with friends, listening to music, and spending time with her kitty, Blaze, her dog, Quaker, and her hamster, Paco.
Samanntha joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in August 2020. She was born and raised in Gainesville. She is no stranger to athletics and started playing volleyball at the age of five and continued throughout college. In college she won a Division 2 National Championship in volleyball and was nominated as MVP of the tournament in 2018. In 2020 she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Tampa and plans to attend Veterinary School in the near future. She has been involved with a local shelter in Gainesville since 2014. She has two dogs, named Copper and Beau, and kitty named Nova. In her spare time, Samanntha enjoys fishing, water sports, adventures with her dog, and spending time with the family and friends.
Grant joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in February 2021. He recently graduated from the University of Florida with a BS in Animal Sciences, with a specialization in Animal Biology. He continues to assist with ruminant nutrition research at UF, and he has years of volunteer experience in the veterinary field under his belt. Grant plans on attending veterinary school and is excited to continue working in such friendly work environment in the meantime. Mark his words, he will get a dog here in Gainesville soon, but he is currently happy to have two yellow labs named Ringo and Bailey back home in Orlando. In his free time, Grant enjoys rock climbing, hiking, listening to music, spending time with friends, and improving his mediocre guitar playing.
Jessica is studying Biology at the University of Florida with a minor in Business Administration and plans to go to veterinary school after graduating. She has two perfect cats Chester and Jade. In her free time, she loves to explore nature, travel ,and spend time with my two cats.
Sarah joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in March 2021. Originally from Connecticut, Sarah moved down to Gainesville to pursue an Animal Science degree at the University of Florida and plans to apply to veterinary school. At home, she has a hamster named Panda and a cat named Elvis Purrsley. In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time at the pool, listening to music, and hanging out with her friends.
Mei joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in May 2021. She was born in China but was raised by French immigrant parents living in South Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida with a BS in Biology in May 2020. She previously worked at the Humane Society as a veterinary technician for two years. She is also applying to DVM programs around the states and in Canada and hopes to pursue a career in Shelter Medicine. She has a Border Collie/Pitbull mix named Fifi, and a Pitbull mix named Dumbo. Mei is also currently training to become a black belt in Cuong Nhu Martial Arts. She enjoys training, doing professional animal/portrait photography, adventures with her dogs, and doing lots of arts and crafts.
Veterinary Technician Surgery/Inpatient Team
Stephen joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in March of 2017. He grew up in Melbourne, Florida but moved to Gainesville for college and has stayed here ever since. Stephen has rescued two stray cats while working here, Oliver and Leo, who are always very spoiled with treats and toys. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to the beach, playing games, and the outdoors.
Brittnie joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in November 2017. Born and raised in Maine, Brittnie has always had a passion for animals. While attending the University of Maine, she began pursuing a career in veterinary medicine and worked as an assistant for a local animal hospital. Now living in Florida, Brittnie plans to obtain an Animal Science degree and continue on to veterinary school. At home she has five wonderful dogs, Ginger, Gemma, Rusty, Maisie, and Sophie. In her free time she enjoys hiking, camping, and spending time with family.
Alia joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in July 2018. She was raised here in Gainesville. Growing up she was very involved in athletics. She danced at Pofal Dance Studios for eight years and trained for professional water skiing for seven years. She also swam on the Buchholz swim team for two years. Alia has always had a love for animals and volunteered at a local veterinary clinic while in high school. She started working professionally as a Veterinary Technician when she moved to Southern California. She continued to do so for many years while also becoming involved in casting commercials in Los Angeles. Alia enjoys cooking, gardening, any opportunity to be in the water, and going to Disney World as often as possible. She has three pets at home; Shelly the leopard gecko, Monty the ball python, and Bisquit the couch-potatoest lab mix ever.
Shelby joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in September of 2020, but previously worked as a Veterinary Assistant in Vermont. She graduated from Southern Vermont College with a Bachelor of Science in 2017. Shelby moved to Gainesville from Bennington, Vermont to follow her dream of becoming a Veterinarian. She has two Golden Retrievers back home. Her hobbies include clogging and any outdoor activities.
Veterinary Assistant Team
Will joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in July 2017. He was born in Houston, TX but has lived in Gainesville for most of his life. Will grew up around animals from an early age and was raised by parents who are also committed animal lovers and former long-time employees of the Houston Zoo. He began working in veterinary practices in high school. Aside from his love for animals, Will is a passionate musician. He graduated with an Associates degree in music from Sante Fe College and has been performing and recording with bands since 2010. He is currently the guitarist for a nine-piece soul band "The Savants of Soul" who tours and performs regularly. He has two animals at home, a cat named Harley and a dog named Polly Pocket.
Catherine started working at Jonesville Animal Hospital in July 2020. She previously worked at the UF Small Animal Hospital in the Emergency Room and the Intensive Care Units, but she is very excited to learn and grow at Jonesville Animal Hospital. She looks forward to being in a more intimate environment and giving your pets the best care. Outside of work, Catherine is a student at Santa Fe College and plans to transfer to the University of Florida to pursue a major in Animal Science, with a specialization in Equine. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her gorgeous cat Isabelle Gertrude.
Julie came to the US from Nottingham, England in 2006. She worked at a small animal practice in Miami for seven years prior to relocating to Gainesville in 2014. She joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team as a receptionist in 2015, tried to retire later that year, but returned November of 2016 to work behind the scenes in data record management. Julie shares her home with five rescued pets: two dogs and three cats. In her spare time, she enjoys crafting on her Cricut machine, catching up with her friends and family in the UK (a daughter, son and four grandchildren) via FaceTime, and exploring new sights in and around Gainesville with her family and friends.
Tara joined the Jonesville Animal Hospital team in May 2015. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the University of Florida in 2013 and has been involved with local rescue organizations since 2009. Tara was one of our veterinary technicians prior to accepting a position at UF in a research laboratory. Now, she helps out on Saturdays as a part-time receptionist. When not at work, she spends a lot of time on her goat farm or hanging out with one of her many pets.
I could not love a place of business any more than I do Jonesville Animal Hospital. Both veterinarians are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and loving towards the animals. The staff has some of the friendliest people I've met, and their professionalism is top-notch. The facility is large, clean, and modern, and the extended hours are fantastic for working professionals. Thank you for being so great to our dog, Charlie!
Dr. Vliet and Dr. Lerman are awesome! When one of my dogs was afraid of going to the vet, they worked with me to make her visits as stress-free as possible. They go out of their way to make every visit great and the facility is clean and inviting. They know me by name when I come to buy dog food and always offer to bring it to the car for me if I have my two young daughters with me.
I have had the privilege of having Dr. Lerman taking care of our animals for over 20 years. The compassion, knowledge and attention to detail displayed in the variety of situations we have experienced is truly amazing and appreciated. It is so evident that everyone associated with Jonesville Animal Hospital has a true love of providing quality care for animals.
The staff at Jonesville Animal Hospital is always exceptional! Our beloved Border Collie, Mysti, was a patient there for 10 years, and we always felt as if they loved her as much as we did. Even after her passing they sent our family the most heart felt, loving message to console us. We think the world of the entire team! Now our new puppy, Boo, will enjoy their loving care too.
The Doctors and Staff at Jonesville Animal Hospital are top-notch. They stayed late, performed emergency surgeries after "normal" business hours, and made sure to call and update me of their status even though it was 9PM at night. I feel like they treat each pet as if it were their own, and always have the best interest of the pet in mind.
Jonesville Animal Hospital is simply the best! Our dogs have been patients at Jonesville Animal Hospital ever since it was first opened by Dr. Vliet and Dr. Lerman. They have cared for our whippet and our two greyhounds. The expert care, knowledge, and compassion shown to us by Drs. Vliet and Lerman and their entire team is outstanding. It is obvious that they love our dogs.
I have entrusted the care of my three dogs to Drs. Vliet and Lerman for about 10 years and am so pleased with their practice. I like that I've never had to deal with a waiting room full of animals; they check every patient in quickly and get them into exam rooms to avoid any "doggy personality differences!" Their support staff always make my dogs feel welcomed, non-threatened and their favorite patients of all time!
The wonderful care provided to our three cats, at Jonesville Animal Hospital, makes me wish that they were my health care providers! Dr. Vliet and Dr. Lerman have given our cats exceptional care at every visit. They've helped us navigate behavior issues and patiently saw us to a resolution. These fine vets have put together an incredible staff, all of whom adore animals! I cannot say enough about JAH, and highly recommend them!
I recently moved to the Gainesville area, and I was thrilled to discover Jonesville Animal Hospital. My 10-year-old Lab suffers from a few health problems and I wanted to find a top-notch local vet for her. Jonesville Animal Hospital has more than exceeded my expectations. This is by far the best service I've ever received from a veterinary hospital.
