Pet Health Exams for All Ages

As your pet grows, their needs will naturally change. Therefore, our veterinarians offer age-specific treatments for puppies and kittens, adult dogs and cats, and seniors, too. Every veterinary service we offer at our animal hospital is flexible and designed to be structured around your pet’s health and lifestyle.

When you bring a new pet into your home, you should schedule their first exam as soon as possible. Puppies and kittens are vulnerable to illness and will likely not have the needed immunity to fight disease.

During the exam, our veterinarians will test your pet’s stool for signs of intestinal parasites and conduct a thorough, nose-to-tail physical. During your pet health check, your veterinarian will answer any questions you have about nutrition, behavior, house training, vaccinations, and more

Getting proper health care for your pet in the first year of their life is essential. Maintaining good pet health in adulthood is just as important! Our veterinarians recommend annual exams and wellness blood work, routine dental cleanings, suggested vaccinations, heartworm testing, and parasite prevention as a key part of keeping your pet happy and healthy.

Aging affects our pets in much the same way it affects people — they begin to slow down and can develop conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. That’s why our veterinarians recommend semi-annual exams to monitor your pet’s health and screen for potential problems.

Illnesses can develop quickly in older pets, so catching them early is crucial. Our animal clinic offers various blood tests to help us assess your pet’s blood cell count and organ function. Furthermore, your veterinarian can work with you to choose the best treatments for your pet — whether this includes medication or laser therapy, we can improve their quality of life.

Pet Nutrition and Behavior Counseling

A balanced diet is integral to your pet's well-being. At our veterinary hospital, we will discuss your pet's nutritional needs with you in detail. Establishing a proper, well-measured diet when your pet is young is essential for their development and future health. Poor-quality food and improper amounts can negatively impact your pet's health, both inside and out! There are countless pet food options to choose from at various retailers, but there is also a great deal of misinformation regarding certain ingredients and what actually works best for pets. Our animal clinic’s team of veterinarians is here to help you make the best choices for your pet's health and answer any questions you have about the ingredients that are in their food. As your pet grows, their dietary needs will change, and we want you to be informed about not only what kind of food they need, but how much they need on a daily basis.

In addition to a balanced, age-appropriate diet, good behavior also plays a role in your pet’s health. Whether your pet is a puppy or kitten or is well into their adult years, certain behaviors can limit their quality of life and cause them (and you) undue stress. Some behaviors may be the result of a health problem, so it’s important to monitor your pet for any behavior you think might be out of the ordinary. Don’t hesitate to give our pet clinic a call if you notice your pet behaving strangely or acting in a way that is potentially harmful to their overall health. Alerting us to these issues promptly will make it easier for us to help you manage them. If necessary, our veterinarians can also refer your pet to a certified behaviorist, especially if your pet’s behaviors are not related to pet health concerns.

Creating A Wellness Plan for Your Pet

You are just as much a part of your pet’s healthcare program as we are! By working together, we can help your pet live their longest, healthiest life with routine treatments and regular follow-ups. Our animal hospital is looking forward to being involved with your pet’s care and seeing them thrive for many years to come.

I could not love a place of business any more than I do Jonesville Animal Hospital. Both veterinarians are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and loving towards the animals. The staff has some of the friendliest people I've met, and their professionalism is top-notch. The facility is large, clean, and modern, and the extended hours are fantastic for working professionals. Thank you for being so great to our dog, Charlie!

Dr. Vliet and Dr. Lerman are awesome! When one of my dogs was afraid of going to the vet, they worked with me to make her visits as stress-free as possible. They go out of their way to make every visit great and the facility is clean and inviting. They know me by name when I come to buy dog food and always offer to bring it to the car for me if I have my two young daughters with me.

- Christopher

I have had the privilege of having Dr. Lerman taking care of our animals for over 20 years.  The compassion, knowledge and attention to detail displayed in the variety of situations we have experienced is truly amazing and appreciated. It is so evident that everyone associated with Jonesville Animal Hospital has a true love of providing quality care for animals.

- Bob

The staff at Jonesville Animal Hospital is always exceptional! Our beloved Border Collie, Mysti, was a patient there for 10 years, and we always felt as if they loved her as much as we did. Even after her passing they sent our family the most heart felt, loving message to console us. We think the world of the entire team! Now our new puppy, Boo, will enjoy their loving care too.

- Gina

The Doctors and Staff at Jonesville Animal Hospital are top-notch. They stayed late, performed emergency surgeries after "normal" business hours, and made sure to call and update me of their status even though it was 9PM at night. I feel like they treat each pet as if it were their own, and always have the best interest of the pet in mind.

- Heather

Jonesville Animal Hospital is simply the best! Our dogs have been patients at Jonesville Animal Hospital ever since it was first opened by Dr. Vliet and Dr. Lerman. They have cared for our whippet and our two greyhounds. The expert care, knowledge, and compassion shown to us by Drs. Vliet and Lerman and their entire team is outstanding. It is obvious that they love our dogs.

- Rita

I have entrusted the care of my three dogs to Drs. Vliet and Lerman for about 10 years and am so pleased with their practice.  I like that I've never had to deal with a waiting room full of animals; they check every patient in quickly and get them into exam rooms to avoid any "doggy personality differences!" Their support staff always make my dogs feel welcomed, non-threatened and their favorite patients of all time!

- Sherri

The wonderful care provided to our three cats, at Jonesville Animal Hospital, makes me wish that they were my health care providers! Dr. Vliet and Dr. Lerman have given our cats exceptional care at every visit. They've helped us navigate behavior issues and patiently saw us to a resolution. These fine vets have put together an incredible staff, all of whom adore animals! I cannot say enough about JAH, and highly recommend them!

I recently moved to the Gainesville area, and I was thrilled to discover Jonesville Animal Hospital. My 10-year-old Lab suffers from a few health problems and I wanted to find a top-notch local vet for her. Jonesville Animal Hospital has more than exceeded my expectations. This is by far the best service I've ever received from a veterinary hospital.
